International breaks, eh? As soon as all our club teams had shuffled their packs at the end of the transfer window they were whisked away from us and replaced with the beginning of qualifying for FIFA World Cup 2014. England in the UEFA European Championships: Portugal 2004

England’s FIFA World Cup 2002 campaign went some way to restoring the country’s pride in its national team after a woeful UEFA Euro 2000, and Sven-Goran Eriksson led his team out for the first fixture in Portugal with the usual expectations weighing on his shoulders. Now, the team had a new star; Everton teenager Wayne Rooney would soon move to Old Trafford but his summer focus was to fire England into the latter stages of the European Championships.
