Joe Hart, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Ashley Cole and Wayne Rooney added to FIFPro World XI shortlist

There are a total of no fewer than seven English players on the full shortlist for this year’s FIFPro World XI, which will be announced early in the new year. Previously announced listees Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard are joined by five of their countrymen now that the other positions have been announced.

It’s been a chaotic week for England, with the Under-21s defeating Serbia twice to reach UEFA Euro 2013 and the senior side picking up four points from two FIFA World Cup 2014 qualifiers. Both endured trying circumstances. In Serbia, Stuart Pearce’s team found itself at the centre of a racism storm, while Roy Hodgson’s first team had their match in Poland delayed by 20 hours. Will this ridiculous story never die? John Terry, cleared in court in July, was found guilty of a Football Association charge relating to the comments he made during an altercation with Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand last October, and with the appeal process still to be run the fall-out continues to become more and more spectacular and pathetic.
