England have remained in third place in this month’s FIFA World Rankings. Only Spain and Germany sit above England in the table, and in terms of points they are significantly ahead. At least, they’re significantly ahead insofar as anyone cares about such things.

England reach record high of third in FIFA World Rankings

As expected, England have been bumped up to third in the latest FIFA World Rankings, their highest position of all time. This has resulted in the inevitable hand-wringing but it’s really not worth getting wound up about. The World Rankings are based on mathematical truisms with no further interpretation; nobody really thinks England are the third best team in the world. Does the algorithm need work? Probably, but how does one quantify such things? And does it really matter? Really?

England up to fourth in July’s FIFA World Rankings

The latest FIFA World Rankings came out yesterday, to the fulsome mirth and merriment of all interested parties. England, despite all qualitative evidence, have risen to fourth in the table and now sit behind only Spain, Germany and Uruguay. The Germans have swapped places with the South American outfit after a busy month.
