Kyle Walker withdraws from England squad, no additions expected

Hot on the heels of Darren Bent, Wayne Rooney and Tom Cleverley, Tottenham Hotspur’s flying full back has now pulled out of the England squad for Wednesday’s friendly against the Netherlands at Wembley, according to multiple sources.

While the Manchester United duo missed out on their game against Norwich City yesterday and Bent was stretchered off during Aston Villa’s goalless draw at Wigan Athletic on Saturday, Walker did manage a full 90 minutes in Spurs’ 5-2 derby defeat against Arsenal yesterday afternoon. No suspicion here, though, because Walker was clearly struggling at times in the game and Spurs have confirmed today that he has suffered an ankle injury.

That leaves Stuart Pearce with a squad of 21 and several selection issues to solve ahead of the game. He has decided not to call up any replacements for the stricken foursome, which means that England will play with a new-look forward line and Glen Johnson and Micah Richards may both play a part at right back.
