England Links: backing for Redknapp, England’s wonderkids and Chelsea duo on the move?

England news is back in fashion, ladies and gentlemen, so here’s your TSC roundup of the best, worst and most predictable.

We’ll begin with the weekly boost for the Harry Redknapp lobby, this week from fellow England candidate (only joking) Ian Holloway. According to his Mirror Football column, former Premier League manager Holloway not only wants Redknapp lined up for the England manager’s job, but wants him lined up NOW.

It’s been a crazy few weeks for England and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, whose comedy errors and last minute goals have made him a headline-maker once more. For his next trick, say The Sun via WV Hooligan, he might just sneak into a Major League Soccer team that already has three designated players. Abracadabra.

Simon Stone of Sporting Life welcomes in the new year with an article about English optimism for UEFA Euro 2012 and how its being driven by the promise of a new generation of young English stars. Please note that this article was written before Phil Jones tried to head a football at knee-height against Newcastle United.

The wonderful people at ITV Football have been assessing the performances of players in the Premier League at the season’s mid-way point, and creating the resultant good and bad XI of the campaign so far. England are represented in both the Team of the Season So Far and the Not the Team of the Season So Far. Micah Richards – not a feature of Fabio Capello’s latest squad – is the sole representative in the positive team, while Ashley Cole, Gary Cahill and Andy Carroll are ‘flops’.

With Nicolas Anelka having already made a big money move to China with Shanghai Shenhua, Les Rosbifs reports on rumours that (current) England and (current) Chelsea captain John Terry could be following him into the Super League with the promise of many, many monies. It’s a non-starter, but a fun rumour nevertheless.

Back Page Football has been in fine form at the turn of the year, and their re-assessment of their One 2 Watch wonderkids is no exception. Along with the frankly wonderful Xerdan Shaqiri, you will find within Jordan Henderson, Jack Rodwell and Adam Johnson. Enjoy.
