It’s a big year for the Football Association. The English game’s governing body is marking its 150th Anniversary with a series of top-notch England fixtures and other assorted events, but there’s another significant anniversary in the neighbourhood too: Wembley Stadium’s 90th year.
It was reported last week that Wembley Stadium, the home of the England national football team and the professional game’s showpiece finals, will be subject to a new naming rights deal with the 4G mobile network EE. According to Joe Hare’s story for The Telegraph, the venue will retain its name and be referred to as some variation of ‘Wembley Stadium in association with EE’.
In news that isn’t quite as big as it was initially reported to be, Wembley will host a high-profile live testing session for goal-line technology in eight days’ time.
Roy Hodgson’s first home game as England manager takes place on June 2nd at Wembley, when Belgium come visiting for an intriguing friendly that pits England against a burgeoning and highly-rated young team.
