Under-21s: England 4-0 Belgium

England’s Under-21 team took a huge step towards securing qualification for UEFA Euro 2013 with a comfortable 4-0 win over nearest rivals Belgium at the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening. The team played under the guidance of Brian Eastick and did absent manager Stuart Pearce proud, leaving a seven-point gap below them at the top of qualifying Group 8.

England’s Under-21 team face Belgium in their UEFA Euro 2013 qualifying campaign on Wednesday February 29th, the same day that the senior team plays against the Netherlands in an international friendly at Wembley.

Olympics: No Team GB place for England’s Euro 2012 squad

The London 2012 Olympic Games is a topic that will rarely appear on The Stiles Council. There are three reasons for this. First, I don’t think football should be played at the Olympic Games – it devalues both because neither institute is properly served by the other. Second, I don’t think England should be represented at all. And third, this is an England site and the English representation next summer will be as part or whole of a Great Britain team, known as Team GB.

Under-21s: Belgium 2-1 England

After an impressive victory against Iceland last Thursday, England’s Under-21s lost their first game in UEFA Euro 2013 qualifying last night, falling to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Belgium in Mons. Stuart Pearce’s side took a first half lead and looked comfortable throughout much of the match, but the impact of a pair of Belgian substitutes made the difference.

Under-21s: England 5-0 Iceland

England Under-21s continued their 100% record in qualifying for Euro 2013 with a 5-0 victory in Group 8 against Iceland. Three England players made their debuts; Nathaniel Clyne, Sammy Ameobi and Will Keane all played at under-21 level for the first time in a match whose scoreline flattered the hosts. Prior to tonight’s match at the Weston Homes Community Stadium in Colchester England’s perfect record read three wins in three, with Azerbaijan and Norway defeated as well as tonight’s opponents.
