The Impossible Job: a chilling insight into something or other

Despite his spell in charge of England, Graham Taylor is not universally disliked. Holding his tactical approach to account is not revisionism, as it was a criticism levelled during his England leadership between 1990 and 1993, but he arrived in the job with his head held high after enormous success with Watford and a job well done at Aston Villa. While I can’t speak for Watford supporters, there’s certainly a great deal of affection for Taylor at Villa Park.

Abusing Rio Ferdinand was a step too far whether it was racist or not

We probably should have known that Rio Ferdinand would end up at the centre of some godforsaken sideshow when Roy Hodgson called him up for the England squad to play against San Marino and Montenegro. Sure enough, the abuse dished out by England fans in Serravalle on Tuesday has become a huge distraction.

Transfer deadline day roundup: David Beckham to Paris Saint-Germain, Jack Butland to Stoke City

Two men dominated the transfer deadline day headlines yesterday. West Bromwich Albion striker Peter Odemwingie can’t get away from the club fast enough, but his hilarious non-move to Queens Park Rangers means he has some serious questions to answer. The other player did get his move: former England captain David Beckham eventually landed at Paris Saint-Germain after leaving LA Galaxy in December.
