Premier League recap: Jermain Defoe and Daniel Sturridge on target

England manager Roy Hodgson spent his Saturday afternoon at a gloriously sunny Craven Cottage and was rewarded with a full-blooded game between two London sides. As ever, the most noteworthy developments took place near the bottom of the table and in the fumble for the final UEFA Champions League spot. Manchester United are the champions.

Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere on PFA Young Player of the Year shortlist

The England team is represented by two players on the shortlist for the Professional Footballers’ Association Young Player of the Year Award. Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck and Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere have picked up votes from their fellow players along with one Welsh player and three Belgians.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick on PFA Player of the Year shortlist

The six-player shortlist for the Professional Footballers’ Association’s Player of the Year Award has been published today and there is one England international on the list. Manchester United’s Michael Carrick has hardly been short of praise this season but it has been a surprise for many that he is included. Perhaps the fact that the players vote for the award should clear that up.

Manchester United winger Ashley Young a doubt for England friendlies

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has told MUTV that England winger Ashley Young will be unavailable for the remaining Premier League games this season because of an ankle injury sustained against Manchester City in the recent derby match.
