Nike Umbro

The significance of style: why the switch from Umbro to Nike matters

Nike’s apparently imminent dethroning of Umbro as England’s technical supplier has been a popular talking point this week. With England’s Umbro deal not due to expire until 2018, and having been in place almost continuously since the 1950s, it’s something of a watershed moment for those of us who are into this kind of thing.

WC 2014 Qualifying

England squad announced: no place for injured Manchester United winger Ashley Young

England manager Roy Hodgson has named his squad for the upcoming double-header of qualifiers for FIFA World Cup 2014. England’s qualifying campaign kicks off in Chisinau against Moldova next Friday before playing their first competitive game at Wembley under the new manager. Ukraine are the visitors to London on the evening of September 11th, the second time in a few weeks that England face a fixture against an opponent from UEFA Euro 2012.

Gary Cahill, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joe Hart in EA’s FIFA 13 ad

It’s nearly here! FIFA 13 now looms large on the horizon, and for saddos like me it’s a highlight of the autumn. The latest ad for the new game features three of England’s brightest young full internationals and a cheerful performance by one Lionel Messi. Warning: may contain traces of Harry Redknapp’s face.

Nike Umbro

Nike to take over from Umbro as England kit supplier

England’s technical supplier could be Nike as soon as next spring according to reports emerging in the last 24 hours. A deal is apparently about to be done to migrate Umbro’s England deal to Nike before rather than after the latter sells off the former, as reported here and elsewhere at the start of UEFA Euro 2012.
